Cars to UK
Importing to England is very simple.
Once you pay the FOB price (cost of purchasing the car in Japan & our buyer’s fee) to KobeCars we will export your vehicle on the next available vessel to Southampton, and post you all the relevant documents that you will need. When the car arrives, you will have to pay the shipping freight, VAT & import duties before clearing the car through customs and taking it away. Any shipping agent in England can organize this for you. Then it will need to be prepared to meet U.K standards and pass an MOT test. If the car is less than 10 years old, it will also need to pass an SVA test.
However importing anything is not always as easy as it seems especially if you have never done it before, so I recommend you use the experienced services of World Wide Motors in England. They will handle all the import procedures in Southampton, bring your car back to their workshop in Newport Pagnell, which is fully equipped with an MOT test station, prepare your vehicle, do the MOT test, pass the SVA test if required and get your car plated and registered.
Import Fees
- Buyer’s fee
100,000
yen fee on top of the cost price of auction vehicle is necessary to make
your vehicle Free On Board (FOB). The purchase price plus the 100,000
yen fee is called the full FOB price.
The
100,000 yen covers the auction house fee, transportation to the wharf,
de-registration paperwork, invoicing, shipping instructions, wharf &
custom clearance fees in Japan and our buyer’s fee.
For
example: If cost price at auction were 400,000 yen, the full FOB price
would be 500,000 yen FOB.
Divide
this by the present exchange rate to work out the English sterling equivalent.
So if the present exchange rate is 196 yen to the pound: Divide 500,000
by 196 = £2,551
- Exchange rates
As the exchange rate fluctuates daily, it’s a good idea to subscribe to the Universal Currency Converter to get the Grt Britain Pound Japanese Yen exchange rate e-mailed to you daily. Subscribe for free at: http://www.xe.com/cus/
- Import duties & VAT
You must pay 17.5% of the FOB price for VAT (value added tax) and a further 10% as an import duty, once the car has landed.
- Shipping freight
All
shipping around the world is calculated in US dollars. The roll-on, roll-off
shipping freight from Japan to Southampton U/K is US$85 per cubic meter.
Length
times by width times by height will give you the cubic square meter measurement.
For example a Nissan Skyline R33 coupe is 464cm x 172cm x 134cm = 10.694
meters. So 10.694 x US$85 = US$908
- MOT & SVA test fees
The cost of preparing and plating your car will vary with each different model. Please contact World Wide Motors directly to get a quote. Or alternatively you can use your own local friendly MOT station, contact them directly for pricing.
